Whether you’re ready for it or not, ageing happens and wrinkles appear on all of our faces as we get older. It’s as though you just wake up one day and think: Where the HELL did those lines come from?!
This is a conversation I have multiple times a week in my clinics, and it’s certainly a feeling I can resonate with as I near 45. I believe that, as women, we really need to embrace the ageing process as it is unfortunately denied to so many. In a world with so many quick fix fads and trends it’s hard to know what is best when it comes to age management. My thoughts? Start with addressing your collagen concerns.
Collagen is a protein in our skin that supports strength & structure and holds our skin in place. Unfortunately, from the age of only 21 our collagen production starts to deplete. As it depletes, our skin starts to become thinner, saggier and wrinkles appear. Finding a healthy and non-invasive way to trigger more collagen production is key to finding an effective age management solution. Did someone say more collagen? YES, PLEASE!
In my opinion, there is one standout treatment that I feel could be the answer to your prayers when it comes to ageing gracefully: Collagen Induction Therapy, or Microneedling.
We have been performing Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) for 11 years in our La Bella Medispa clinics. After treating thousands of different types, textures and ages of skin, we can confidently attest to the claims that CIT improves the texture & tone of skin (including targeting pigmentation), helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It is also particularly effective in scar reduction (including acne scars) and refining pores. It is basically the go-to treatment when you’re looking to really step up your skin treatment plan to achieve your skin goals – without harsh ablative lasers or skin peels.
CIT has seen some huge advancements since we started performing these treatments over a decade ago, and I feel we have finally got our hands on the best device in the market. We have partnered with the EXCEED Medical Microneedling device, which is the world’s first double-FDA approved, automated class 11 microneedling device. The EXCEED Microneeding device has been medically proven to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, skin laxity and uneven skin tone and texture. Its patented technology is made in Germany and unlike other microneedling devices, EXCEED has global certification in both FDA and TGA approval. Believe me when I tell you, it has exceeded our expectations – and our clients’ expectations, too!
The great thing about the EXCEED device is that your treatment can be completely customised, with not just the depth of penetration adjustable, but the speed can be adjusted as well. Equipped with a tilted needle plate, the device adapts to the surface of the skin as it creates up to 900 microchannels in the skin per second (hence the name of microneedling). It’s also super quiet and, compared to other devices we have used previously, gets a 10/10 for comfort from our clients. It’s no wonder the EXCEED is the gold standard when it comes microneedling
So, what can you expect when you come into the clinic?
Before a microneedling treatment, we ensure that the skin is healthy with a thorough skin assessment using the Observ Diagnostic Machine. This gives us a clear visual of the skin, and we’re able to see what’s happening under the skin surface. We assess whether you’re good to commence your CIT treatment, or if we need to build up your skin health prior to commencing CIT treatments.
We prescribe a bespoke homecare routine to support your individual skin – we recommend dermaviduals, a corneotheraputic skincare range that is physiologically compatible with the skin. We also identify any internal support the skin may require, such as omega 3, which contributes to ceramide formation and prevents trans epidermal water loss which contributes to improving enzyme activity. We may also recommend further support with a probiotic. Remember: the healthier your skin, the better your cells will respond to the microneedling treatment.
The EXCEED device utilises 6 very small needles which penetrate into the skin, tricking the cells into thinking there is a wound awakening in the fibroblast (the cell responsible for collagen), triggering growth factors and stimulating collagen synthesis. Healthy collagen is then produced. It is a quick & easy treatment methodology with little downtime. After a course of treatments, skin structure is visibly revitalised, rejuvenated & regenerated and stimulates collagen production for up to 2 years afterwards. Depending on individual skin conditions and concerns, our patients normally undergo 3 to 6 treatment at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks and follow this up with a maintenance plan.
